Mae and Dwight Heard traveled the world collecting art, crafts, and curiosities. In 1929 their collection was large enough to open a small museum next door to their home, which is now the Heard Museum. This exhibit showcases some of the items they collected from South America, Central America, Oceania, North America, and Africa. Amazing stuff is on display like necklaces made out of shimmery green bugs, hats made from kiwi bird feathers, and beautiful beaded cradle boards.
I was to design the gallery and manage the construction; design casework, assist the curators in selecting objects, layout the objects, select a color pallet, design the lighting, work with the graphic designers, work with the mount makers, have the gallery furniture fabricated, and install the objects in the cases with the curators and registrars.
